HEY, YOU!

You think you know what BERRIES are?

Swipe through the images below and discover that you know NOTHING!

THE FACTS

In all actuality, only the last three out of the six 'berries' pictured up there are true berries! What's going on here? Well, the botanical definition of a berry stipulates that the fleshy fruit must be produced from a single flower, and must contain only one ovary. This means that bananas, avocados, and watermelons are technically berries, along with more familiar faces such as grapes, cranberries and blueberries. However, blackberries and raspberries are not berries because they come from different ovaries of the same flower and are known as 'Aggregate Fruits'. Strawberries aren't even derived from the ovary of the plant at all! They are known as 'Accessory Fruits'.
